Responding to the challenges of HIV/AIDS, low-income, and homelessness
Jerusalem House provides over 62% of the permanent supportive housing designated for Atlanta's homeless and low income population affected by HIV/AIDS. Jerusalem House is also Atlanta's oldest provider of this type of housing.
In 2009, we served 261 people. 36% of them were children and 49% of the children were 11 years old or younger.
Although we were founded by a multi-denominational group of Atlanta's community leaders and receive funding from members of the faith community, Jerusalem House is not a religious organization. For detailed Jerusalem House financial and program information, click here.
Compelling statistics confirm the tragic link between homelessness and HIV. According to the latest research findings presented at the October 2006 National Housing and HIV/AIDS Research Summit in Baltimore, Maryland:
Homelessness is a major risk factor for HIV.
Housing is a matter of life and death for a person with HIV/AIDS.
| |
The risk lies in the housing situation, not the person.
This growing body of data is providing documented evidence that a homeless person with HIV/AIDS has a slim chance of survival without stable housing.
